Real Madrid: destined for success.
Tonight, (4th of November 2014), Real Madrid face Liverpool in the group stage of the Champions League 2014. Do Liverpool stand a chance at the Bernabau, or will the power of Ancelotti’s dream team prove too hot to handle?
You know that you are facing a good team when you consider “only conceding 4 goals” as an achievement, and this was the case when Real Madrid travelled to Anfield two weeks ago. Gerrard and his followers seemed to put up a fight for all of 15 minutes before succumbing to the overwhelming power of Real Madrid. As the two teams line up tonight and the Liverpool players look to their right and see their opposite numbers, it is my opinion that the game will already be lost.
The current success of Real Madrid is creating an unstoppable cycle for Los Blancos. The more they win, the more confident they become, the more confident they become, the more they win, get in their way at your peril.
Casillas has re asserted himself as the unquestionable No,1. As he looks out at his defence of Ramos, Pepe, Carvajal and Marcelo he will feel as safe in the knowledge that Balotelli doesn’t stand a chance. The new boys in midfield (Kroos and James Rodriguez) have similarly asserted themselves on the club. The confidence they brought in from the World Cup has no doubt accelerated their progress and they shine on and off the ball, (however this may just be the glow from James’ golden boots). Furthermore Gareth Bale, taking on the role of Ronaldo’s protégés, is undeniably one of the worlds greatest players at this moment in time. Although the game against Liverpool will be his first after returning from injury, I have no doubt that playing against an English team will spark him straight back into life. Finally, there is simply outstanding Cristiano Ronaldo. Enough said.
Therefore, as the Liverpool players, who are coming off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle, look to their right in the tunnel with trembling knees and step out onto the pitch to face the living footballing gods, the game is as good as done.
